The Call of Duty: World at War 5 is a first person shooter video game. The game was developed by Treyarch and was published by Activision for all the versions of Xbox 360, Windows, Playstation 3 etc.
It is the fifth series in a series of games made by the same company. However, this series has minimal expansion of the game than expected. The game is set during the World War II.
The previous version of the game was set in modern times and this version goes back to the world war series. Call of Duty 5 World At War currently retails at Amazon for $56.99.
The game however focuses its attention solely on the Pacific Theatre and the Eastern Front of the world war, at least in the Windows version. The story line goes something like this.
The focus is entirely on the preliminary battles that were fought during the World War II. The areas of concentration are the Pacific and the eastern parts of Europe. These include the United States of America, the Soviet Union and the Empire of Japan.
Nazi Germany is also included in the game. The entire game has been told from the first person experience narrative of a Red Army soldier and another Marine Raider.
The story is heavily based on the historical battles that occurred at Makin Island, Stalingrad, Peleliu, Seelow Heights, Berlin and Okinawa.
Apart from the first person narrative, the Call of Duty: World at War 5 also has a multi-player portion where multiple layers of games modes are involved. These modes help the player to unlock any additional weapon that he might lay his hands on for better fighting and protection.
It also helps increase the rank and award collection of the player. This technique of the game, which is collecting additional weaponry and awards was initially implemented in the Call for Duty: War of the Worlds part 4.
The new version, Call of Duty: World at War 5, can accommodate a maximum of four online players and two players offline in the console version (Xbox 360 and PS3). The Call of Duty: World at War 5 is actually one of the best selling games in the UK since its release in November of 2008.
In fact it is second in the best selling rank and has sold more than even one million and forty one thousand copies in the UK itself. I believe it is also in the top 10 best selling video games on Ebay US as well.
The Call of Duty: World at War 5 was criticized by a few who were unsatisfied with the game going back to the world war theme rather than building up the story to progress after the Modern Warfare.
However, the acute portrayal of the dark and gritty sides of the war was highly praised. The technique of jumping years in the plot and the introduction of the co-operative mode were also very highly praised.
